Energy Consumed
Soleo needs an estimate of the energy used (kWh) to calculate estimated bills and savings. Ideally this information comes from a
recent 12-monthhistory of electric bills at the target location. If usage is fairly constant throughout the year, typical monthly
usage may be entered for January, and "Use Jan as typical month" checked.
If a Time-Of-Use (TOU) rate plan will be considered (this is typically the case when installing a photovoltaic system), then Soleo
further needs to know the relative percentage of energy consumed in the different Time-Of-Use periods. If this information is not
on the historical electric bills, it must be estimated. Knowing the customer's major energy draws and usage patterns can help, e.g.
use of afternoon air conditioner, evening hot tub, industrial processes, etc.
Difference from OnGrid
OnGrid's TOU percentages are for a weekday, while Soleo's are for the whole week. There are advantages to both. OnGrid's may
be easier to estimate, whereas Soleo's are easier to enter from the TOU breakdown on existing bills. To convert from OnGrid to Soleo,
multiply OnGrid's Peak and PartialPeak percentages by 5/7.
Power Demand (Commercial customers only)
Many commercial rate plans include a "Demand Charge" in addition to an energy charge. The demand charge is based on the peak power
used during a billing period. It is charged per kilowatt (kW) rather than per kilowatt-hour (kWh) as withan energy charge.
Smaller business rate plans may consider only one demand number per month; in this case enter only a Baseline value. Larger
rate plans may consider peak demands at different times of day (TOU periods); in this case enter values under the appropriate headings.
A value of -1 means copy the value from January.
The Peak Demand boxes apply only to Commercial rate plans withDemand Charges.
